While bathing suits and splashing around may be the furthest things from our minds here in the Northeast, Mark Zuckerberg made a splash in Palo Alto, California, this weekend, taking baby Max for her first swim. And according to his Facebook post, she loved it.

At just 2 months old, Max is hitting the pool earlier than most infants. While chlorine exposure isn’t harmful to babies, experts tell The Bump it’s a good idea to wait until the six-month mark to take babies in the pool, since she’ll be able to properly hold her head up and be able to splash and kick on her own.

YMCA baby swim lessons start at this age, as well as the popular (and controversial) Infant Swim Rescue courses, where babies are taught to swim up to the surface, flip onto their backs, float, breathe and rest until assistance arrives. Still, other swim lessons start earlier: Goldfish Swim School courses begin at 4 months, and the popular British Swim School (yes, available in the U.S.) offers courses for 3 month olds.

With dad guiding her and keeping her safe, Max certainly wasn’t in harm’s way. We can’t wait to see which activities the father-daughter duo takes on together next.
